[SMM Magnesium Market Analysis: Magnesium Alloy Extensively Applied in Emergency Equipment, Supporting Modernization of the Emergency System under the 15th Five-Year Plan] As the “15th Five-Year Plan for Modernizing the Emergency System” advances, China’s emergency industry is accelerating its upgrade toward lightweight, intelligent, and combat-ready capabilities. Magnesium alloy, with its outstanding comprehensive properties, has fully penetrated multiple emergency equipment scenarios by leveraging its light weight and high strength, corrosion and shock resistance, excellent heat dissipation and electromagnetic shielding, and green recyclability, becoming a core new material that underpins the construction of a modern emergency system.

With the implementation of the "15th Five-Year Plan" for Modern Emergency System Development, China’s emergency industry is accelerating its upgrade toward lightweight, intelligent, and combat-ready solutions. Magnesium alloys, with their outstanding overall performance, are becoming a core new material supporting modern emergency system construction. Their advantages — such as being lightweight yet high-strength, corrosion-resistant and shock-absorbing, excellent in heat dissipation and electromagnetic shielding, and green and recyclable — are widely applied across multiple emergency equipment scenarios.

In the field of intelligent emergency response, magnesium alloys provide key support for the iteration of intelligent prevention and control equipment. Various fire reconnaissance and disaster survey drones adopt an integrated magnesium alloy airframe, reducing weight and enhancing efficiency while ensuring structural stability, effectively improving driving range and adaptability to complex environments, thus contributing to all-domain risk monitoring and early warning. At the same time, the impact resistance and durability of magnesium alloys enable search-and-rescue, inspection, and explosive-disposal robots to conduct unmanned operations deep into high-risk enclosed areas. Their excellent heat dissipation and electromagnetic shielding properties also ensure the stable operation of emergency command and field monitoring terminals under extreme conditions, thereby strengthening the foundation for proactive intelligent prevention and control.

Emergency energy storage is a core application track for magnesium alloys. Magnesium-based battery systems using magnesium alloys as negative electrode substrates completely solve the challenge of power supply during disasters under conditions of circuit break, network disconnection, and power outage. Among them, magnesium-air saltwater batteries require no pre-charging, can be stored long-term, and can generate electricity simply by adding fresh water, making them suitable for powering equipment at various sudden disaster sites. Portable magnesium batteries can cover extreme temperatures from minus 30 degrees Celsius to plus 80 degrees Celsius, meeting the electricity needs of individual rescue operations in high-altitude cold regions, deserts, and similar field conditions. New-type solid-state magnesium batteries greatly improve safety and energy storage efficiency and can be used for long-term energy storage in mobile cabin hospitals and emergency stations, addressing the shortcomings of traditional lithium battery applications. Furthermore, high-end magnesium alloys have been maturely applied to the casings of outdoor energy storage devices, significantly improving the field damage resistance and weather resistance of the equipment.

Magnesium alloys have achieved large-scale application in multi-scenario emergency rescue equipment. In the firefighting field, lightweight magnesium alloy fire-extinguishing launchers feature strong mobility and quick setup, enabling efficient handling of complex fire situations in mountainous forests and chemical industrial parks. During mountain rescues, magnesium alloy all-terrain rescue vehicles and aerial work platforms adapt to complex and rugged terrain, quickly completing material delivery and personnel transport. In flood rescue scenarios, magnesium alloy pontoon bridges are easy to assemble with corrosion-resistant and water-resistant properties, allowing for the rapid construction of waterborne emergency passages and significantly improving the efficiency of flood disaster response.

In the fields of medical support, individual protection, and grassroots-level emergency response, the application of magnesium alloys continues to expand. Lightweight magnesium alloy stretchers and emergency medical devices are adapted to harsh rescue scenarios, and modular components can rapidly build temporary medical mobile cabin units, improving the post-disaster medical care system. Magnesium alloy exoskeletons, protective helmets, and protective gear can reduce the operational load on rescue personnel and strengthen safety defense lines. Furthermore, magnesium alloy emergency tools, tent frames, fire-starting equipment, and logistics storage and transport equipment meet the needs of grassroots-level routine emergency stockpiling and rapid material dispatch, strengthening grassroots-level emergency response capabilities.

From an industry chain perspective, magnesium alloys have already covered the entire industry chain encompassing emergency intelligent equipment, energy storage equipment, rescue devices, and protective storage and transport. Relying on China’s abundant magnesium resources and mature precision manufacturing technology, magnesium alloy emergency equipment can be produced in a standardized and large-scale manner. Their green, recyclable, and low operation and maintenance cost characteristics align with the long-term development concept of the emergency industry, continuing to contribute to the upgrading of China’s emergency equipment industry and opening a new track for new-material emergency applications.
